consider what happens when I press tab

# ed /var/spool/news/out.going/2549-100638[TAB]
2549-1006384512-1* 2549-1006385263-2*
# ed /var/spool/news/out.going/2549-100638

well, my eyes have to dig out the differences in the choices in order
to complete the string.

Hmm, what if the first differing character were highlighted somehow?
Ok, as a non default option. As a holiday present. Just for me.

I mean I'm not asking for a fancy lynx arrow chooser menu tree style
thingy... hmmm

GNU bash, version 2.05.0(1)-release (i586-pc-linux-gnu)
