I don't know whether it is a problem with Bash or yum.
I suppose it is bash only. Also, if I need to upgrade to the latest version of Bash where would I get a reliable binary
for the above stated architecture.

No, this is not a Bash problem. Not everything that happens on a terminal or terminal emulator is automatically the Bash shell.
