The last version of Bison that builds on a vanilla Tru64 4.0 system
(at least through 4.0F) is 1.35. This is what happens when I run configure
for version 1.875:
checking for cc option to accept ANSI C... none needed
checking for flex... flex
checking for yywrap in -lfl... yes
checking lex output file root... lex.yy
checking whether yytext is a pointer... yes
checking for bison... bison -y
checking for ranlib... ranlib
checking for gm4... no
checking for gnum4... no
checking for m4... /usr/bin/m4
checking whether m4 supports frozen files... no
configure: error: GNU M4 1.4 is required
Why does something with as simple a build environment as bison require some
special feature that's apparently mainly available in GNU M4? The current
make, gawk, bash, grep, less, wget, gnupg, etc. don't require it... Guess
I'll go out and install GNU M4, but this seems to be a needless hassle.
