echo --version bug

From: Josiah Ritchie

I've got a version of echo on Gentoo in which the man pages report --version
option, but when issued on the commandline, I get the string --version instead
of the version information. I'd tell you what version of echo I'm using, but I
can't cause it doesn't work. It doesn't matter what user I run it as.

Here's the output of ls -l /bin/echo:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 14752 Sep 15 10:58 /bin/echo

This isn't a big problem, but somewhat annoying as I can't compare versions
with a friend.

Thanks,
Josiah Ritchie
