df spools up hard drive

I know some may not think that this is a bug,
but I really, really don't like having my hard drive spin up, just to check
data that could have been written into a cache or something when the hard
drive went to sleep.

My KDE pauses as Konqueror spins up sleeping hard drives... and it really
bothers me..

whenever I'm curious how much diskspace I have left, I run df... well, The
drives spin up, and I'd rather not wait, and I'd rather not wear out my
drives, and I'd rather not have the large power suck all at once...

I have 3 hard drives... It's not good for my system to have all three of them
turn on at the same time.

Anyway, I'm tired and frustrated after a day of using Gentoo, and this
"feature request" of having hard drive data cached before the hd turns of is
important to me...

It's probably a kernel issue... but I found this email address first...

Thanks for making the tools that I use,
