That would probably be clearer.

No, busybox goes further; GNU sort's doc does not say "input using NUL 
and output using LF". But this is splitting hairs, and the spirit of 
your email is (I think) that coreutils' documentation could be clearer, 
and busybox should fix its behaviour.
