The gperf I used yesterday to check was 3.0.4, from MacPorts,
but ISTR that I had also checked with the repository version of
gperf and also had failures.

3.0.4 seems to be the latest release, http://www.gnu.org/software/gperf/

Actually, looking at my archives I see we (you and me) already
talked about this, privately.  I guess the CC to bug-cppi was
lost at some point, I have no idea why.

I will send the thread to you.  Feel free to publish it.

The key point is that the version of gperf on MacPorts is modified
to address this issue:
