Rename/Delete directory errors

Hi,

I'm very sorry if this is the wrong forum to post CVS usage
problems, but I've had no luck resolving a problem with our CVS
repository. If there is somewhere more appropriate to post this
question, please let me know!

The original problem I was attempting to resolve was that one of our
users had added two directories with the same name but different case.
>From a windows-based client this causes all sorts of confusion. I
attempted to resolve this by renaming the directory (yes, hack the
repository directly). A clean checkout of this repository worked as
expected, but on running an update we get errors that a file that was
deleted from the renamed directory (i.e. in the Attic) is no longer
there.
My second attempt to resolve this was to delete the directory (in
the repository itself) then add it again (and the file) through a cvs
add/commit on the client. Now when we do a cvs update we again get the
same error - that a file in the old directory name is no longer there.

We're using v11.1P1 as CVS server, and a variety of clients
including v1.9. Looking in the repository itself, the only reference
to the old directory name is in our CVSROOT/history file.

Is this a known issue with v11.1P1 (I have searched the News file but
couldn't find any relevent fixes)? Should I perhaps edit my history
file - whilst ensuring no-one else is using CVS?

Any help would be very, very gratefully received.

thanks,

Chris Nappin, CVS Administrator and tea maker, Morse Group Ltd.
