NEW NURSING DISCUSSIONS

Join all the discussions going on in our new forums.

DUI
I have a friend who is interested in nursing and has a drunk driving incident on her record. I've heard that a nurse can lose her nursing license if pulled over for drunk driving and was wondering if she would have any trouble getting her license if she already had this on her record?

First Year RN Blues
Yikes! I knew my first year as a med-surg RNwould be "challenging," and that nurses are famous for "eating their young," but I have been practically devoured whole by coworkers on my unit...

DEAR NURSE NANCY: NEED HELP OR ADVICE?

Have a question on a nursing issue or need some advice? Want to share or discuss a difficult patient situation or ethical problem? Our Director of Nursing, Nancy Mooney, MA, RN, ONC, is here to answer your questions:

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: I am currently in my last year of a BSN program, and I have an interest in oncology nursing. I am uncertain if I should obtain an advanced practice degree or if I should simply pursue certification in this area. Also, I am unsure of the need for this type of specialized nursing care. I know that some hospitals want experienced oncology nurses to work on oncology units, but others do not seem to have a true need for RNs with this type of education. What can I do with an advanced degree in oncology that I could not do with a BSN and certification in oncology?
