Thank you for the patch, but I'm afraid it does not fit in the ddrescue philosophy.
Ddrescue needs a proper POSIX system to work. The 'linux.h' non-portable extensions are there to provide functionality beyond what POSIX provides, not to work around limitations in POSIX implementations.
