It's a tool. It's not a turnkey application nor is it pitched
as one that magically does everything perfect, particularly
since there's so many different ways that drives fail.
It requires experience and a some hand-holding at
times to extract optimal recovery times. Overall in a majority
of situations it does an excellent job with minimal options
        tweaking.

What options explicitly did you attempt? Depending on the
failure mode of the drive it can be seconds to minutes, maybe
even an hour before it can move to the next section. Perhaps
        try the "-a" option.

What hardware/dock/ports are you using to recover the drive
        with?

To follow suit, I am a software developer of over 30 years. I
dispute your conclusion and consider your attempt to shout-down
and lord-over with claims of apparent superiority to the
developers to be disingenuous. Given that you've been in the
industry many years your experience would tell you that
this style of approach will net you little more than scorn
and non-replies. There are significantly better approaches
to get the outcome that you're wanting.

I'm not the developer of ddrescue, though I do use it multiple
times every day for non-cleanroom drive recoveries, but feel
free to fork and fix it to your personal preference, or pay
$2500+ for one that perhaps suits your needs better.

Paul.
