I'm not sure what the source of your problem is, but it seems like ddrescue
may not be the right tool for the job. Have you tried Macrium Reflect Free
(for Windows) or Clonezilla (live linux-based CD)? If you want to work with
individual partitions, you might also consider a combination of sfdisk and
partclone. These tools will clone working systems more easily and
efficiently than ddrescue.
