No need to wait for a release for a fix like this.
Save the contents of my message to a file, starting with the
"From 4e0d..." line and going to the end of file (this is called a
patch or diff).  Be sure to save the original, not ">"-quoted text.

Let's say you saved to /tmp/diff.patch
Then you'd cd into your diffutils-3.0 directory and run this command
to apply the changes in that patch to your working directory:

  patch -p1 < /tmp/diff.patch
