Thanks for the report, but I can't reproduce it on a GNU/Linux-2.4.4
system using a local disk:
$ cd /tmp
$ mkdir d
$ touch f
$ install f d/
$ find d
d
d/f
$
Please give more information:
what is the type of OS?
is the disk in question local/NFS/?
if the disk is not local, from what type of system is it mounted?
what commands did you use to demonstrate the problem?
what was the precise failure?
