bug in ls - use of * with dot files and -a

g'day,
just reporting what appears to be a small bug in ls.
It seems that when I use the * wildcard at the
beginning of a string with ls, it doesn't list dot
files, even when used with the -a option.
eg. I have 2 files in my home directory called:
times.txt and
.times.txt.swp
when I use ls -a *times* I only get times.txt. I have
to actually use ls .times* to get .times.txt.swp
I am using Redhat Linux 7.2 (Enigma) with kernel
version 2.4.7-10. ls version appears to be ls
(fileutils) 4.1.
regards,
        dan burton
