updatedb won't look at full system

Recently, updatedb started generating a message "/usr/bin/find: . changed
during execution of /usr/bin/find" and the database clearly missed much of
the filesystem. I can no longer locate any kernel modules, and I can't
locate files in /opt/kde/bin.
I have a SuSE9.1 installation. Perhaps it is a special SuSE patch to
provide extra security by preventing the user from figuring out where
things are?
