I have in fact recently committed a bunch of patches to the public git
repository to do precisely what you describe.   Perhaps you would be
so kind as to try building the code from the git repository and
letting me know what you think?

Sorry about the bad timing and not updating the enhancements wanted
list (if you would be so kind as to give the URL, I'll fix that).
However, I really would be grateful for your contributions!    I look
forward to working with you, either on improvements to the current
implementation (since the reduction in argc could perhaps be made
smarter) on on other aspects that you would like to work on.
