The man page says:

    As with the -exec action, the `+' form of -execdir will build a command
    line to process more than one matched file, but any given invocation of
    command  will only list files that exist in the same subdirectory.

And it didn't process "more than one matched file", so I considered it as
bug, too.  Moreover the same used to work before the migration to fts.

It may sound stupid, but where can I get the upstream 4.4.x branch from?

The backport is currenlty pending our internal review, so that it makes
sense to hold on for a while.  I'll then provide the patches based on the 
upstream 4.4.x HEAD.
