OK. For reference, the work-around I used for my card was:

  sudo modprobe snd_pcm_oss
  esd&
  SDL_AUDIODRIVER=esd freedink ...


By the way, I'm currently involved in a clean-up of the DinkC
interpreter, which among other things attempt to fix all the crashes
you experienced when the D-Mods are using invalid sprite numbers.

Expect a new snapshot soon :)
