[Bug-freedink] Refining the AUR Instructions

From: Harry
Subject: [Bug-freedink] Refining the AUR Instructions
Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2012 19:07:55 -0400

I refer to the instructions here:
<http://www.gnu.org/software/freedink/get-distros>, under the section
"Arch Linux".

Firstly, the nitpicks:
--Considering this is GNU Freedink, it should probably be noted that
the instructions work for Parabola GNU/Linux, a free version of Arch
GNU/Linux, as well as Arch GNU/Linux.
--You should change all instances of "Arch Linux" to "Arch GNU/Linux"
or "Arch [GNU/]Linux" as per
<http://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html#distronames1>.
--AUR stands for "Arch User Repository", not "Arch Linux User
Community Repository" as per
<https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_User_Repository>.
And now the meatier problems:
--Because yaourt has the dependency "package-query" which can only be
found in the AUR, the current instructions will only work if the user
already has package-query installed, which is highly unlikely. To fix
this, you could either:
        a) Add instructions for installing package-query from the AUR
as well as instructions for installing yaourt, or
        b) Tell the user to just add the [archlinuxfr] repo their
pacman.conf, which includes yaourt and package-query among other
packages. For instructions see the "repository" instructions from
here: <http://archlinux.fr/yaourt-en#get_it>.
I'd recommend taking route B, because then yaourt can be
updated with normal pacman.
--Since the instructions were written the names of the packages have
changed. As of this writing the only Freedink packages in the AUR are
freedink-data, freedink-dfarc, and freedink. Installing freedink will
automatically install freedink-data as well, so just "yaourt -S
freedink" is all that's needed to play the game. I suppose
freedink-engine has been replaced by freedink.
--aurvote won't work until it has been configured with an AUR account.
A link should be included to register for an AUR account for users who
do not already have one: <https://aur.archlinux.org/account.php>.
Additionally, users should be asked to run "aurvote --configure" after
installing aurvote to save their login details so aurvote will work.
Then, why not have users vote for all Freedink packages with "aurvote
--vote freedink-data freedink-dfarc freedink" (the --vote switch is
optional but makes the instructions more explicit)?
