Please begin by telling how you built Gawk with MinGW.  The official build
instructions are in README_d/README.pc.  After you copy files from pc/
and type "make", you should see the list of supported build
configurations; choose one of them.

You can also download a precompiled binary from here:

(the latest version there is 4.1.3.)

FWIW, I have none of the problems you report (although I didn't try
your program specifically, as you didn't show the full recipe and
didn't provide the files you used).
