Glad to hear this.
This is the second time this integration test between gettext and gawk
failed; the first one was in version 3.1.5.
How about if this integration test gets integrated into the gawk test suite,
so that the gawk maintainers will notice a failure before a release, not
after the release is already out?
Find it attached. Feel free to adapt it to the test environment of gawk.

One more reason to add it to the gawk test suite! I would never have
attempted to use the -O option (I did not even know that it exists),
but you and your collaborators surely occasionally run the entire gawk
test suite with and without -O.
