I've had to set the executable flags on this tests, then they pass.

Good idea to use gjs. Otherwise we would have to include
all the libraries ourself.
(Unfortunately I'm still compiling under OS X to make it work
here too ;-) )

Makes sense. There are too many format string variants in the
Javascript world. For example we use ExtJS and don't have a
very urgent need too have its format strings supported.

Yes, we should remove all cruft not really necessary.
I'm currently playing a bit with the maint branch and try to
see what needs to be improved.
