Follow-up Comment #1, bug #44808 (project gettext):
The patch looks okay, but I don't think the original code fails when no C++
compiler is available. Regarding C++, libasprintf/configure.ac only invokes
AC_PROG_CXX, which doesn't make the entire configure phase fail. I tried that
on NetBSD (guessed from your patch header) after removing g++ and c++, but
couldn't reproduce the problem.
Could you paste the actual error?
