Hi,
        Firstly I feel like we are reinventing the wheel here. This is not
the first digital encylopaedia and not even the first free 'open content'
style one (see www.nupedia.com). Someone has done this before and much
better than I could, I'm sure. I will see if I can talk to the nupedia
people about seeing/using their DTDs.
        To answer your question in the meantime how about a
<contribution></contribution> tag for each author containing values such as
'primary author', 'contributing author', 'researcher', 'pizza delivery boy',
etc...?
