Hi everyone,
With regard to the discussion over what goes in/what stays out, and how to
make sure that what stays in the encylopedia doesn't become an unnavigable
mish-mash, why not have two new XML tags in an article's header:
<intention> </intention>
and
<interpretation> </interpretation>
where <intention> is recorded exactly once in the header, and is created by
the author(s) of the article, and <interpretation> sections are added by
those who view the article (should they choose to add such a section, of
course).
In this way, it may become possible to enhance navigation beyond standard
sub-categorisation (e.g. science/comp/graphics), and go through a
sub-category by
a) selecting articles written in a particular spirit (from the author(s)'
point of view)
b) selecting articles with a specified correlation (+/-) between the <intention>
and <interpretation> parts of the article.
Bearing in mind the vast array of emotive subjects that could be covered in
an encyclopedia that is free of the binds created by corporate and/or
prevailing cultural opinion in any one geographical location or society,
acknowledging that this is an encyclopedia by humans, for humans, in the
design will lead to a far more /humanly/ useful body of work, with far more
scope for producing tailor-made cross sections of the database.

PS. I really like the Alexandria idea! :)
