This is an evil trend I started, it is now stopped.
5.07 will be better.
All comments should be "/* */" style to comply with GNU coding standard
suggestion that C89 be the target language (I know we expect C99 integer
types, but we use M4 macros to make up for their absence, so that isn't
a compiler issue).
