I don't have any specific details of Son Altessa.

As you probably realised GNU Chess 2 is long dead from our perspective.

There appear to be a couple of commercial off shoots of OpenChess for
PalmOS. You may be able to obtain source code changes from these vendors
(Handchess, and 9.95 Chess).

Certainly Handchess is freely downloadable with source code, and has
changes noted in 2003, including a note that the "original" author is
now working on it, presumably Son Altessa.

If you have to!

Don't work from 5.06, work from CVS head release if possible,
instructions on doing this are on Savannah (GNU Source Forge). If the
changes are big enough to need a branch ask...

There might also be good reasons to branch from an earlier version -
(5.04 springs to mind for some reason) depending what Palm OS and the
compilers give you in terms of supporting threads and the like.

You might also look around for Winboard protocol GUI's for Palm, as that
might be more appropriate?
