Dear H.G. Muller,

I am willing to implement your suggestion indeed. That would do for a tighter integration of GNU Chess with XBoard, which is good for GNU. File gnuchess.eng seems an easy thing. 'gnuchess -x' is the correct command to start GNU Chess in "XBoard" mode. As for the logo, let me check if we have something else that could fit the purpose. By the way, which version of XBoard can be used to test this?

I will get back to you shortly.

Regards,
Antonio

Dear GNU Chess developers,

I would very much want the GNU Chess install to contain a file
/usr/[local/]share/games/plugins/xboard/gnuchess.eng
containing the 3 lines

plugin spec 0.0
gnuchess -x
chess

This would make XBoard automatically recognize the presence
of GNU Chess on the system, and add it to its internal list of
engines that can be selected by the user from the Load Engine
menu dialog, or as a tournament participant in the Tournament
Options dialog. This would save users the trouble of opening a
terminal and typing things like "xboard -fcp gnuchess", (and
typing does not seem to be of this age anymore).

(The second line is supposed to be the command needed to run
the engine in XBoard (CECP) mode; I hope I got that right.)

It would also be nice if the GNU Chess install could contain a logo,
which GUIs could display when they run the engine. This should
preferably be a 100x50 or 130x65 pngĀ  image, installed as:
/usr/[local/]share/games/plugins/logos/gnuchess.png
I attached a suggestion for this.

Would you be willing to do this?

Regards,
H.G. Muller
