Suggestion: bind `b' to browse-url-of-dired-file in dired mode

From: Eric Hanchrow
Subject: Suggestion: bind `b' to browse-url-of-dired-file in dired mode
Date: 24 Sep 2000 18:07:57 -0700

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

In GNU Emacs 20.7.2 (i386-debian-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
of Tue Jun 20 2000 on raven
configured using `configure i386-debian-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr
--sharedstatedir=/var/lib --libexecdir=/usr/lib
--localstatedir=/var/lib --infodir=/usr/share/info --with-pop=yes
--with-x=yes --with-x-toolkit=yes'

My "subject" line pretty much says it all ... I've put the following
in my .emacs, and it's so handy, I honestly think most people would
benefit from it. There wasn't anything bound to `b' in dired-mode
anyway.

    (require 'dired)
    (define-key dired-mode-map [?b] 'browse-url-of-dired-file)

Hi, Bradley answered my first message.

What I'm interested in is... why VM (which I consider
to be a wonderful mail program) is not listed on the
GNU software page.

I'm not an advocate, just an interested user, thanks
for any feedback (and I really enjoy emacs, appreciate
all the great work y'all have done).

I simply don't know. You'd have to talk to the Emacs maintainers about
this. You can reach them at <bug-emacs@gnu.org>.

One issue might be that we require copyright assignment (to the FSF) from
any code that goes into the core of GNU Emacs, so that defending the GPL of
Emacs is easier. Perhaps we were unable to get copyright assignments on VM.

Anyway, the Emacs maintainers would know for sure.
