Such as? The only think I can think of is that `^' might be thought of
as `toggle' (since it means xor in C), but it's a bit of a stretch from
there to toggle-read-only.
I personally have this function bound to `M-%' which seems pretty
mnemonic to me (since read-only-ness is represented by a `%' in the
modeline). I don't know where I picked this up from, I've been using it
since at least gosmacs days, if not further back...
Of course, one might argue `hey, M-% is bound to query-replace!', but
naturally I have that bound to M-q, and ... ad nauseum. On the other
hand, `C-x %' is available...
