When exactly do you get that error?  What were you doing just before
you got the error?

If you get the error when Emacs starts, try "emacs -debug-init".

If you get the error before hitting some keys, try M-x
toggle-debug-on-error RET first, then hit the keys.

If you get the error while hitting some keys, setting debug-on-error
to t while compiling the package is going to do nothing.
