buffer-list or buffer-menu or whatever should have an option, enabled
by default, to make its default directory ~. Test: C-h i C-x C-b C-x o
C-x C-f. Gee, I didn't plan on finding a file from there...
One can see that it would be more helpful to anchor this in ~.
gnus-default-directory already does this for similar buffers in gnus.
