True.  Nevertheless, AFAIU, Jari was suggesting to recognize .mailcap
for a shortcut even though Explorer won't.  He was also suggesting,
again AFAIU, that the support for shortcuts in Emacs be extended way
beyond what Windows allows you to do with shortcuts.  The latter,
AFAIK, is limited to invoking programs only, i.e. if a shortcut's
target is not an executable program, you can only ``invoke'' it,
through the "start" command or one of its equivalents (Start->Run, for
example), which will cause Windows to run the program associated with
that file.  However, functions which read, write, rename, or delete
files will not act on the shortcut's target.  AFAIU, Jari was
suggesting to support shortcut's in those latter operations (or their
Emacs equivalents) as well.

But maybe I misunderstood completely what was being suggested?
