FWIW, I had no problems building Emacs on Solaris 2.8.

etc/PROBLEMS says crashes related to libungif v4.1.0 may be resolved
by upgrading to version 4.1.0b1 of libungif.  Is it possible that this
is your problem, and that you actually are using libingif-4.1.0, not 
4.1.0b1?  Did you build libungif yourself, or was it already installed on 
that machine?

Please also post the system configuration printed by the configure script 
when it finishes.

Finally, what compiler are you using?
