Here, we have tested on emacs 21.0.104 (?) on linux and it works.
The problem seems to hp-ux specific.
This information may be helpful, so thanks for obtaining it.
In the mean time, would you please call the system "GNU/Linux"?
Linux is just the kernel--the system as a whole is basically GNU.
