appres Emacs yields:

launch Emacs with:
emacs -geometry 30x20 -q --no-site-file -l left.el

then hit space

As usual, screenshots available at:

Now look at the bottom right corner: the continuation glyphs are not
displayed correctly until one hits C-l (first 2 screenshots).
