Just confirming what Raman has reported. This behavior of reporting
error only happens when at the top of the tree or in leafe nodes
(those with no previous/next node defined) and it only appears to
occur when running under X windows (Using GNOME and sawfish window
manager on Linux systems with XFree86 3.x and 4.x and linux kernels
2.2.x and 2.4.x). Does not appear to occur when emacs is run from a
linux text console.

I first noticed this with emacs-21.0.103 pre-release on a RedHat 6.2
system and with the first release of emacs 21 on a Mandrake 8.0
system.
