But that's not the intent of the original text: it did _not_ mean to say 
that users should use the simulate menu bar to add text properties.  I'm 
quite sure the intent was those "M-g b" etc. bindings described in the next 
section.

So I'm asking whether adding a sentence saying something like "The 
keyboard way of adding text properties is described in the next section." 
would solve the problem you raise.
