EMACS + JAVA Crash

Hi,

Im running  java 1.31_01 on my Windows 98 machine.

I just installed emacs 21.1 on my machine.

To have emacs handle java, I installed JDE 2.2.8,
speedbar 0.13a, elib-1.0, semantic bovinator 1.4beta12 and
eieio-0.16

Now, when I try to load the following program in emacs

class test { private int x; public static void main(){}}

and compile it (ctrl-c , ctrl-v, ctrl-c key sequence)
the machine simply dies. The behaviour is perfectly repeatable.
[actually, it dies irrespective of what program I try to compile,
including ones that I can compile cleanly and run from the
commandline]

Any information about this problem would be greatly
appreciated.
