    Emacs is a haven unto those forced into Windows.

Nobody is actually "forced" to use Windows--anyone can arrange to stop
if he wants to.  People who say they are "forced" into Windows are
exaggerating: switching would require a certain inconvenience, effort
or sacrifice, which they don't want to make; but they don't like to
recognize that they have *chosen* non-freedom, so they tell others
(and maybe themselves as well) that they have no choice.

As one who believes freedom is worth fighting for, even worth certain
sacrifices, I try to convince them to make the effort and dump
Windows.  Therefore, when someone says "dump Cygwin" (which is free
software), I have to point out that Windows is the real problem.
