how could the mighty emacs lack --fullscreen ?

All I wanted to do was have emacs startup in full screen mode [you
know, where all the real estate is covered except for the window
manager toolbar jazz].

Why can I do
$ xli -fullscreen photo.jpg
whilst the mighty emacs is incapable?

Last time [before I took the emacs 21 plunge] we had a big argument
about this, with wopping functions for .emacs being presented. Anyway,
the shortest solution for me was in .Xdefaults:
!emacs.geometry: 97x32+-6+-6 for emacs 20.7. For 21.1 use:
 emacs.geometry: 95x35+-6+-6

however, it's like still totally hardwired.

Looking at Info node "Window Size X", nothing is telling me how to
have emacs start up with full sized windows, you know, the ones that
hitting Alt-F10 gives me...

Anyways: add a node to tell "how do I start up in full screen mode".
If it is something that cannot be handled in .emacs, and must be done
in .Xdefaults, [or the command line] say clearly so so as to leave no
doubts, but xli can do it, so why not the mighty emacs?
