Cursor disappears on C-d

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Hello. This is an interesting bug.  Amazing as it sounds,
if you put your cursor here ------^ on the above line
and hit C-d, the cursor disappears.  Strangely, it only
seems to occur if a sentence starts with 'A' and there are
two spaces between the '.' and the 'A'.  You can test this
by hitting C-d with the cursor here ---^ and see that the
cursor does not disappear. I'm in "Fundamental" mode when
I do this (although while submitting this bug, I see it
occurs in "Mail" mode, too).
