consider what happens when you want some fancy dired listing
C-u s X <return>

then you want dired by name... to which there is only one route

s 

but once you do that there is no way to get back to your fancy listing
without typing it all over again, as just plain

s

will just give you dired by date.  Even C-u s isn't enough. [not that
i favor C-u s]  no, i don't know what i favor... in another message i
mentioned that a whole new deal should be provided.
