I like this new feature for the opposite reason than Eli does!
There's now no penalty for using the mouse!  That is:

If you could preserve your carefully selected cut buffer by using C-k
instead of cutting with the mouse (mouse-3 twice or mouse-3 + DEL),
then users would be forced to learn the linear C-k stuff in addition
to the spatial mouse stuff.  Since you're going to munge the X
selection whether you cut with the mouse or Control-this-Meta-that,
might as well cut with the mouse!
