These odd entries look very much like menu entries. `apropos' looks for
symbols and menu entries and `intern'd into symbols by easymenu for various
reasons. Now I still can't reproduce your problem because those symbols
should simply not be displayed by `apropos' (because they don't are not
variables or functions and don't have any symbol properties associated with
them).
Can you try and see if you can reproduce the problem with M-x gnus
but with an empty ~/.gnus file ?
If so, try to trim down the ~/.gnus file until you figure out which
part triggers the problem.
