copying from the minibuffer prompt ignored anyway

So much for walking over into the minibuffer prompt and copying stuff
there:

Huh?  I had moved into the minibuffer prompt with C-b, I had carefully
extracted and placed the words "date" into the prompt's blank, but it
disregards my hard effort as if I just hit RET.
