Is this available anywhere on Usenet, or only via the mailing list?

The blurb on the mailing list info page

http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/info-gnu-emacs

says

"info-gnu-emacs is also gated one way to USENET's newsgroup comp.emacs
(once known as net.emacs). This one-way gating is done for users whose
sites get comp.emacs, but not gnu.emacs.announce."

This doesn't seem to be the case: gnu.emacs.announce seems dead (not
archived on Google, listed but contains no articles on my newsserver), and
I don't see the announcement on comp.emacs (unless it's very tardy).

On this topic, then IMO it would be nice if there was a simple statement
somewhere on the http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/ page that said:

"The latest version of Emacs is: XX.XX (released yyyy/mm/dd)"

At the moment, it's not at all clear (from this page) which is the latest
version; and this is the closest thing Emacs has to an *official* home on
the web, yes?
