Being that find-file is so user friendly that even /bla/bla//urg/urg

I don't think it would be smart, since (if I recall correctly) "...//" and 
"...~/"

are handled at a very low level.  Treating "... /" the same way might make it
impossible to work with files and directories that have a leading space in their
name.


Because I was using cut and paste I was not stopped during entry as
would have happened if I was typing the filename in.


I've gotten in the habit of typing TAB before RET, to make sure I've pasted a

valid file name.
