5. C-h v <ret> smtpmail-default-smtp-server is...
     smtpmail-default-smtp-server's value is 
     "smtp-lax.iccinternet.com"
     
     Documentation:
     *Specify default SMTP server.

6. set-variable smtpmail-smtp-server <ret>"smtp-lax.iccinternet.com"
   solves problem.
